Hi Everyone,
My name is Andrei and I was born in Arad, Romania in 1988. However, my mother could not afford me, and my father died during the communist regime. My mother put me up for adoption in an orphanage.
My parents today adopted me while they were in the military in Germany. They are American citizens. This is where it's get interesting, and I was wondering if anyone could help me. The birth certificate that my parents received from the Romanian govt. said that I was born in the state of California, which is where my parents resided at the time. However, I was born in Romania.
When I was adopted, I did not become an American citizen, like one would assume. Instead, I am still a Romanian citizen, with a birth certificate that say I as born in the United States.
Now that I am 19 (almost 20) I'm starting to get very curious about my roots and my Romanian culture.
My passport expired quite a while ago., and I would like to renew it. I am able to right because I am a Romanian citizen, correct? I called the Consulate of Romania in Chicago, and they told me that they would have to see proof that I was indeed a Romanian citizen in order to issue me a new passport. I have my birth certificate, my official adoption documentation, and my passport. Will this paperwork suffice?
